One way to develop our creative capacity is through thinking routines in which we can explore different ways to make thinking visible. A creative atmosphere includes everyone in the classroom and we as mediators need to feel comfortable with the routines and vocabulary. In my experience, thinking routines help delineate and organize those ideas that sometimes we do not know how to express.

Recognize the importance of learning and creative thinking in all people in all branches of knowledge is the intention of Project Zero, creators of Visible Thinking.

Thinking routines typically consist of a series of questions that teachers ask children in order to lead them through the steps of critical thinking and to help them understand where their own ideas come from. These routines support children’s development as self-directed learners and promote learning for understanding (Project Zero 2010).

Challenge your self to See Think and Wonder.
